Sniffies just turned a church into a monument to cruising

Only in New Orleans. At least, for now.

Sniffies kicked took over the Church at Hotel Peter & Paul, a former Catholic church in the Marigny that's now a gorgeous boutique hotel.

For one night, the sanctuary turned into a cruising gallery. Decades of Southern Decadence photos hung on chain-link fencing, neon lit up the pews, and a cappella singers set the mood.

Writer and β€œhorny evangelist” Leo Herrera gave the sermon: "Cruising, in its purest form, is a love and protection for your neighbor."

Then a DJ took over and the congregation danced.

It was a hookup app throwing a party in a church, and it came with real history. Decadence has survived more than 50 years of hurricanes, the AIDS crisis, and anti-gay backlash. It now brings around 200,000 people to the French Quarter every Labor Day weekend.

Sniffies also sold limited-edition tanks, with $5 from each going to the LGBT+ Archives Project of Louisiana.

Heading to New Orleans anytime soon? Put Hotel Peter & Paul on your list, and book early.

The CBD Brand that Actually Does What It Says

CBD is having a moment and CBD brands are everywhere right now. But with so many options, it can be tough to know what to look for – and which brands actually follow through on their claims.

That’s where CBDistillery sets itself apart. For the past decade, all of CBDistillery's products have been made with non-GMO, US-grown industrial hemp and with 100% clean ingredients – no corn syrup or artificial colors, flavors, preservatives or sweeteners.

They frequently introduce new and innovative products formulated to meet a variety of wellness needs and customer preferences. And every single batch of CBDistillery’s gummies, oil tinctures, topicals and softgels are tested by an independent, accredited lab to make sure what’s in the package matches what’s on the label.

Right now, CBDistillery is offering our readers a special deal: save 50% on orders of $75 or more with code NEWS50!

Why did a queer paper keep Trump's press pool running?

An empty WH briefing room

The girls are fighting…

Overnight, a judge temporarily blocked Trump's ban on CNN, MS Now and Politico.

But before that ruling, the big fight in queer media this week was between two of our own.

The Advocate put out a report noting that the Washington Blade kept working the White House pool, while the TV networks sat out in solidarity.

The article made it sound like the Blade was crossing a picket line even Fox News refused to cross.

Blade Editor Kevin Naff pointed out that the boycott was only by the TV networks β€” no other print outlet was boycotting. He says he asked the president of the White House Correspondents’ Association to confirm.

Sitting out, he says, would have gotten the Blade thrown out of the pool and the briefing room β€” a hard fought position. They are the only LGBTQ+ outlet in the pool.

β€œThe LGBTQ community is far better served with the Blade in the room than a far-right blogger taking our seat,” Neff said.

He also says he called The Advocate's reporter within 90 minutes of the story going up and never heard back. The Advocate hasn't retracted.

You can disagree with the Blade's decision to stay β€” or the Advocate’s decision to run that piece. But a story accusing a 57-year-old queer paper of crossing a picket line should have its editor's answer in it before it runs.

This is where queer media is right now. Last week it was equalpride and its own MAGA mess. This week, the two oldest names in queer journalism are fighting in public over a story that didn't hold up.

That's part of the reason why a group of LGBTQ+ journalists are starting something new. We mentioned it last week and the response was overwhelming. Now it's official.

Q&A Time:

Last week, we asked: Would you read a news outlet fully owned and run by queer journalists β€” no outside investors?

92% of you said YES, sign me up when it launches!

  • β€œYes and please include the entire community, including queer people of color.”

  • β€œI’ve been disappointed by Out in particular and the Advocate. It’s become more fashion focused and has lost its original mission.”

  • β€œIf we don't vet leadership and those behind any publication, it is on us when we don't get "factual" news delivered to us. We must support "factual" news organizations, not just what we want to hear, but the truth. For too long, news has been driven by algorithms that promote "sensationalism" to stun us and drive up "clicks" for more revenue. The world is hungry for the truth, unvarnished and real so that we can make informed decisions in our lives.”

  • β€œI follow several news sites. I will check in on the Advocate once in a while, but I rarely see anything there I don't see elsewhere. The new queer news site has to be funded somehow. Subscription?”

  • β€œWould also like more transparency on various companies and their support of LGBTQ issues and what companies to avoid who don't support us. Sort of like the HRC used to do”

  • β€œI came out at 15 in 1958 when it was still illegal to be Gay. The cops stayed outside Frank’s Gay bar with a registration book that we had to register in. We were then given a registration card that we had to carry at all times. If a bar got raided and we didn’t have the card we were arrested and charged. This shit went on for several more years. At 15 I became a card carrying Lesbian 🀣 Also at 15 I was told, because I was gay and proud that I needed to go to a psychiatrist or get out of school. I said I’m not sick so I don’t need a doctor and they kicked me out of school. Here in NYC you had to be 16 to quit school but kicking me out at 15 was ok for them. So being visible is VERY important to me‼️ I want a Gay owned and operated by MY PEOPLE.”
